Fund Raising Food Fair & Thingyan Festival Apri...
Thingyan Festival or the Water Festival preceding the Burmese New Year is the most celebrated festival in Myanmar. Its symbolic feature (especially for the young folks) is to have fun with friends and strangers alike; sprinkling scented water on one another. The beauty of the festival is further enhanced by golden fragrant blossoms called Padauk which are the seasonal flowers of Thingyan and usually bloom everywhere in the nation. Thingyan is also the season of giving and people tend to practise good deeds to welcome the New Year. This is the true spirit of the season.
This fund raising event in Cambridge on the 6th of April turned out to be very successful. Over 300 people joined us and the Shelford Memorial Hall was absolutely packed with laughter, music and sizzling joy. A total of £4050 was raised to fund medical equipments for hospitals in Myanmar. This would not have been achievable without a support of local people from Cambridge and those who have come from around the UK and overseas. All our thanks go to friends and friends of friends who were there physically as well as in spirits and for making generous donations - in terms of Time, Money and Emotions.
